How to replace the aging sealing ring when repairing the oil pump? Key points for model matching

Time:2025-05-20 Hits:0

When replacing the sealing ring when repairing the oil pump, attention should be paid to model matching and standardized operation. The following are the key points:

1、 Judgment and disassembly of seal ring aging

Aging characteristics

The sealing ring may harden, crack, deform or lose elasticity, resulting in fuel leakage and pressure drop.

After disassembly, observe the cross-section of the sealing ring. If it is severely worn (such as uneven thickness or surface grooves), it needs to be replaced.

Disassembly precautions

Carefully remove the old sealing ring using specialized tools such as tweezers and sealing ring drivers to avoid scratching the surface of the oil pump housing or shaft neck.

Clean the installation area: Dip a non fiber cloth in gasoline or alcohol to thoroughly remove oil stains, carbon deposits, and old sealing ring debris.

2、 Key points for matching sealing ring models

1. Confirmation of key parameters

Size:

Inner diameter (ID): matches the diameter of the oil pump shaft or hole, with an error controlled within ± 0.1mm.

Outer diameter (OD): adapted to the aperture of the installation groove, too loose may cause oil leakage, and too tight may lead to installation deformation.

Cross section diameter (CS): Common specifications include 2.65mm and 3.53mm (O-ring), which need to be matched with the depth of the installation groove (usually groove depth=cross section diameter × 0.7-0.8).

texture of material:

Fuel compatibility: FKM or NBR are preferred, which are resistant to diesel and gasoline corrosion (nitrile rubber is suitable for -40 ℃~120 ℃, while fluororubber can reach -20 ℃~200 ℃).

Adaptability to working conditions: Pressure resistant sealing rings should be selected for high-pressure environments (such as common rail systems), and rubber cold resistance should be considered for low-temperature areas (such as nitrile rubber with low-temperature modifiers added).

2. Model matching method

Priority for original accessories: Refer to the oil pump model (usually printed on the housing or nameplate), check the manufacturer's manual to obtain the original seal ring number (such as Bosch oil pump seal ring number with "O-RING" prefix).

Measurement substitution method: If the original factory model is unknown, use a vernier caliper to accurately measure the size of the old sealing ring, record the inner diameter, outer diameter, and cross-sectional diameter, and compare with the sealing ring specification table (such as AS568 standard) to select the matching model.

Pay attention to special structures: Some oil pumps use irregular sealing rings (such as lip shaped or star shaped), and it is necessary to confirm the type of structure (such as whether it has dust lips or guide rings) to avoid using ordinary O-rings incorrectly.

3、 Installation specifications for sealing rings

Installation steps

Lubrication treatment: Apply clean lubricating oil (such as Vaseline, hydraulic oil) to the sealing ring and installation groove to reduce installation resistance and avoid distortion.

Correct positioning: Press the sealing ring smoothly into the installation groove, ensuring no wrinkles or distortions. For shaft sealing rings, a dedicated sleeve can be used to assist installation and prevent tilting.

Test sealing: After installation, manually rotate the oil pump shaft to check for smoothness, and then perform a pressure test (such as applying 0.5MPa air pressure and immersing in water to observe bubbles) to confirm no leakage.

Forbidden operation

Do not forcefully pry the sealing ring with sharp tools such as screwdrivers to avoid damaging the components.

Different materials of sealing rings should not be mixed (such as fluororubber and nitrile rubber with different chemical properties, which may accelerate aging).

Avoid contact between the sealing ring and acidic or alkaline cleaning agents, and ensure that the surface is dry and free of impurities before installation.

4、 Common Problems and Solutions

Oil leakage hazard: If there is still oil leakage after installation, it may be due to size mismatch or scratches on the sealing surface during installation. The size needs to be rechecked and the sealing ring needs to be replaced.

Compatibility risk: Non original sealing rings need to be verified for oil resistance, and can first undergo a fuel immersion test (soaking for 48 hours without expansion or hardening).

Summary: The core of replacing the sealing ring is to accurately match the size and material, select the appropriate model based on original factory data or precise measurement, and follow the standardized installation process. If you have any doubts about the model, it is recommended to contact the oil pump manufacturer or professional repair shop for technical support.
